Texas Named the One Thing It Will Not Accept: An Answering Service

Honest registered agent representation in Texas for $99/year. Includes the address used on filings, same-day scanning of legal mail, and reminders for state deadlines.

Standard disclosure, made early. This page belongs to Texas Registered Agent.ai, we compete for Texas registered agent appointments at $99 a year, and we benefit if you switch. Rocket Lawyer's rates come from their own published pricing as of a July 2026 check.

Their Number Does Not Move, and That Deserves Saying

The agent line at Rocket Lawyer is $125 for twelve months, and it reads the same whichever membership level you hold. No promotional first year, no discount contingent on some other subscription, and no different number tucked away in the fine print of another tier. That kind of pricing discipline is uncommon here and it should be acknowledged before anything critical gets said.

The platform behind it is real too. Template library, document review, attorney consultations at member rates. Businesses that draw on those a few times a year are not being taken advantage of.

The Question Is Whether You Wanted the Platform

Agent service at Rocket Lawyer is one module inside a legal subscription. If the subscription is the reason you are there, this page has nothing useful to tell you. If you arrived wanting a Texas address that satisfies the state, you are funding a legal platform in order to use one line of it.

So it is worth being precise about what the state is actually asking for, because Texas is more specific than most.

Texas Wrote Down What Does Not Qualify

Most states describe the registered office in the affirmative and stop there: a street address, no post office boxes, thank you. Texas goes further and names the failure modes.

The registered office has to be a street address at which the agent can be personally served during normal business hours. Then the rule names two arrangements outright and refuses both: an address that is only a mailbox service, and an address that is only a telephone answering service. That second refusal is the interesting one. Texas anticipated the two commonest ways of faking presence and wrote them into the prohibition by name. A rented box that receives envelopes is not an agent. A phone line answered somewhere else is not an agent either.

What the rule leaves standing is the thing itself: a real Texas location, staffed during the working day, where a process server can complete delivery to a human. The address does not have to be your principal place of business, which is precisely why paying somebody else to hold it is a normal arrangement rather than a dodge.

Notice what that description does not include. Nothing about document templates, subscription tiers, or legal advice. The statutory job is physical, local, and boring, and the state has no interest in whatever else your provider sells.

What Our Ninety-Nine Includes

A Texas street address of ours that satisfies the personal-service test and takes your own address off the filing. Anything served there is imaged that same working day and delivered to your portal with an alert. Consent to serve issued at signup, since Texas requires the incoming agent's agreement before a designation counts. Reminders ahead of the Comptroller's May 15 filing date. A permanent document history in the portal.

No bottom-of-market boast here. BetterLegal lists $90, we list $99, and the honest description of ours is near the low end rather than at the floor of it.

The $26 annual difference is the least interesting part of this comparison. The interesting part is whether you use the rest of what $125 comes attached to.

Ending Rocket Lawyer's Texas Appointment

It takes one filing: Form 401 with the Texas Secretary of State, $15 for an LLC, through SOSDirect or by mail, listing us, our Texas registered office, and the written consent the state insists on. The steps sit on our change of agent page.

One sequencing rule, and it is the same regardless of who you are leaving. Your entity record has to name a working agent for every day the company is on the register, so file first and cancel second, once the state's record shows the new name. Nothing about the state filing touches your Rocket Lawyer membership either, so if you get value from the document library there is no reason to give it up. Drop the agent line and leave the rest alone.
